6 cut to my handicap and a real confidence boost as I am now back down where I started the season at 9.1. I left my birdie putt on 18 an inch short so tapped in for a par for the lowest gross of the day and a nett 63. infuriating as it really took the gloss off the birdie on 17. worst hole was the 17th, a short par 3 which i double bogeyed. I stiffed a 230 yard 5 wood and tapped in for a birdie 3. Best holes of the day was clearly the stroke index 1 sixteenth. My back nine wasn't quite as impressive as the front but I still came back in 37 which gave me a nett score of 63. I missed a couple of birdie putts which ended up just sitting on the edge of the cup but I certainly wan't complaining about the putter as it really was working well. unfortunately I dropped shots on the next 3 holes before par on 9 gave me an outward 36(3 over). I had a cracking start, level par through 5 holes and was really swinging well. Yesterday(Sunday) was the clubs final major of the year, the Houston Cup.

We now face Bob Jarvis and John Hooper in the semi final which promises to be quite a match! Bobby rolled home a 4 footer on 15 to win the match 4&3.

Bobby putted well throughout and i chipped and pitched pretty well which worked on the day. the back nine was a far better performance although we definitely wasn't at our best at all. Neither of us seemingly had got out of bed yet and quite remarkably we ended up the front nine 1 up. We got off to a dreadful start, quickly going 2 down after 3 holes. This weekend, Bobby and I played our quarter final match in the Honor Oak Shield summer knockout against Charlie Moss and Peter Pirrie. I shall look forward to going back there more socially with the other half as the hotel and spa facilities looked great. It was a hastily re-arranged venue as the match was due to be played at the Aquarius but due to some essential work taking place where we have a temporary green and tee in place we were unable to host as planned. home advantage certainly was a major factor in the match as you really needed to know where to put the ball off of the tee. After a battling performance in the morning doubles, we were simply blown away in the afternoon singles. Sunday was the Jack Hicks club match at London Beach. 4 cut to my handicap and was good enough to win so a really good day! Still it was good enough to earn me another. I scored a really impressive 38 points and that included a poor finish at the last four holes scoring only 1 point on the last four. I also played my Captains prize round alongside the Pilling match due to playing the Jack Hicks match on Sunday. To be fair to Peter, he didn't have his best game but in fairness, I played pretty well, the score flattered me a little. I played really well and eventually ran out a 5&4 winner. Last weekend (Saturday) I had my Pilling quarter final match-play against good friend Peter Pirrie.

Will be quite a difficult task though but we'll see. I think I have a couple of 16 point rounds to knock off so hopefully can push my Nett total up over 190 points. We'll see how close it is in a couple of months. I thought at the start of the year 180 points would win it as when you win, you get cut 2 shots. My best 10 scores so far have netted me 187 points so an average of 18.7. there's still a good 10 or so weeks left to put in a score so it really will go down to the wire I suspect. I'm still leading the swindle league although there are a few players breathing down my neck. I was more than happy to repeat it in the swindle though and obviously, was enough to win on the night. I had a practice 9 earlier in the afternoon and went round in level par also so I really thought I had my good knock of the day earlier. I went round in level par giving me a whopping 22 points. I had a really impressive 9 holes in the Captains Thursday swindle. It's been a really successful period tinged with a bit disappointment at The Aquarius going down to London Beach golf club in the Jacks Hicks and getting soundly beaten. So, after my return from Le Touqet I've had a really busy couple of weeks on the golf course.
